The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Washington, D.C., wishes to alert the General Public, informing that a web of criminals are impersonating Officials from the Government of the Dominican Republic, in an alleged fraud scheme by which they intend to trick individuals and/or institutions by offering donations of motor vehicles (cars, ambulances, motorcycles and fire-trucks) asking the victims to cover the shipping costs.
The criminals’ modus operandi is impersonating High Ranking Dominican
Officials, (Undersecretaries, Ambassadors and Consuls), using false email accounts and telephone numbers to reach the victims. After establishing contact, using unscrupulous persuasion methods, they request the transfer of funds to cover the shipping costs of the supposed donations using financial service companies.
Be advised that these criminals have targeted small individuals and/or institutions in different countries, including: Peru , Paraguay , El Salvador , Guatemala and Colombia . If any contact is made by these individuals, immediately report them to the corresponding local authorities.
Please note that all donations made by the Government of the Dominican
Republic will always be processed thru the official channels, with the relevant documents and with the knowledge of the General Public.
